Will Kumar Gunaratnam be deported again?

kumarLeader of the Frontline Socialist Party Kumar Gunaratnam is in danger of being deported from Sri Lanka once again on a charge of interfering in Sri Lankan politics, after his deportation in April 2012 over illegal stay, human rights activists point out.

Soon after his arrival in the country today (01), he attended a media briefing and violated the condition of non-interference in Sri Lanka’s political affairs. He arrived on the passport to the name of Noel Mudalige.

The controller of immigration and emigration deported within 24 hours two female foreign journalists on a charge of political involvement during their stay in a media workshop in the island.

Also, the visa permission given to Canadian Tamil Dr. Suren Raghavan who is in Sri Lanka, makes it clear that he cannot engage in any social activity, other than meeting family members and friends. Therefore, it will be a problem for Kumar to have violated a visa condition applicable to foreigners.

However, it will not be a problem for him, as he has come to the country to ‘expose the secret pact between Maithri and the JVP’, HR activists point out.
