Poll monitors worried by SLT’s bias!

rubasingheElection monitors are casting deep suspicions on the monopolizing of the provision of IT services at the upcoming presidential election by appointing Sri Lanka Telecom as the sole service provider, as SLT is extremely biased towards president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Accordingly, SLT can control the entire database of the election.

SLT CEO Lalith Silva and its affiliate Mobitel’s CEO Ranjith Rubasinghe, son of Ariya Rubasinghe’s elder brother, are completely disregarding the ethics that should be followed by public entities and are openly showing their partiality towards the president.

At a recent election rally of the president in Matara organized by SLT, present were ministers Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and deputy minister Sanath Jayasuriya in a blatant violation of election laws.

By enjoying the IT services monopoly, SLT has been able to hand-puppet even the elections commissioner’s office. SLC provides all dedicated telephone lines and VPN facilities to the elections office and all media institutions, including Art TV, EAP Media Network, Upali Newspapers, TNL, Wijeya Publications, Lanka Puwath, Lakbima, CSN, Sirasa Media Network, EDL, Express Newspapers, SLRC, SLBC, Hiru Media Network, Sri TV, VFM, Lak FM, Lakhanda, Siyatha TV and the latest addition, Siyapatha of Bodu Bala Sena.

All are keeping a close tab on SLT, after election monitors and the opposition have been informed by SLT employees about its planned programmes to promote the candidate it is supporting. Therefore, we are kindly requesting top officials of SLT not to commit hara kiri.
