Direct Air Links to Berlin to Establish


berlinSri Lanka Ambassador to Germany Karunatilaka Amunugama met Director General Gerold Reichle of the Department of Aerospace of the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany on 17th of December 2014 in Berlin, and discussed in detail the strengthening Sri Lanka - German civil aviation relations.


Ambassador Amunugama highlighted that there is a great demand for intensifying bilateral cooperation in the field of civil aviation due to high inbound tourism from Germany and that enormous business and trade avenues are created with high economic growth in the aftermath of the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka. In the period January - October 2014 alone, more than 87,000 German tourists visited Sri Lanka. The Ambassador further emphasized the need of re-establishing direct Sri Lankan flights from the German capital of Berlin catering the North of Germany, which is currently lacking at the moment.

Director General Gerold Reichle conveyed the German Government's strong interest in strengthening bilateral relations and welcomed the Ambassador's proposal on re-establishing direct air links between Berlin and Colombo.

Both agreed to continue their dialogue for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.

Deputy Chief of Mission Chaminda Colonne and Sri Lankan Airlines Regional Manager in Frankfurt am Main Kaushal Seneviratne also participated at the discussions.
